poem

Once a month there is something that is called Roundtable. For those of you who are familiar with scouts you might know what this is. It is a once a month meeting that you can go to for updates on what will be going on in the coming month for scouts. Anyway they hand out a packet with some great ideas for den leaders and cubmasters. This month had a great poem I wanted to share. Our theme for March is "Take Flight".

CHILDREN ARE LIKE KITES by Santa Clara County Council

You spend years trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you are both breathless. They crash ... they hit the roof ... you patch, comfort and assure them that someday they will fly.
Finally, they are airborne.
They need more string, and you keep letting it out.
They tug, and with each twist of the twine, there is sadness that goes with joy.
The kite becomes more distant, you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as meant to soar ... free and alone.
Only then do you know that you have done your job.

Prayer: Dreams Taking Flight
"Thank you, God, for the dreams of the people who gave us the possibilities of flight. Thank you for the birds that inspired them as examples of how to do it. And thank you for the courage of those who kept trying until they succeeded."
