Crater Lake
This has to be the most unbelievable place to see. The beauty is breathtaking. God has blessed us with some amazing sites and this is definately at the top of the list.
Just a brief history: "Mount Mazama, the volcano that used to be, began over 1/2 a million yrs ago during the ice age. Glaciers periodically gouged its slopes but had melted away by the time of Mazama's climactic eruption 7700 yrs ago. The eruptin spewed out more than 18 cubic miles of pumice and ash, leaving a void into which the mountain collapsed. The resulting depression, a bowl-shaped calders, was 4000 ft deep and over 6 miles wide. The water of Crater Lake began to collect int he caldera soon after eruptions ceased. The lake is the deepest in the United States-1932ft. Only 6 lakes in the world are deeper." (from A Guide To Crater Lake the Mountain That Used To Be by Ron Warfield)
here you can see where a point. the mountain towered a mile over this point
